If you could make a soundtrack for your book, what would it be?
If you aren’t writing a book, what would the soundtrack of your life be? Even if you were born in the eighties, you might picture your soundtrack to be from another time: Vivaldi, Mozart, doesn’t have to be DEVO. (I loved Whip it, btw.)
For my book (and my life), I choose songs from the Vietnam era. The ’60s and ’70s for sure. The music would be most bands that begin with “The”: The Beatles, The Byrds, The Association, The Buckinghams, any British invasion group and any Motown beginning with “The”. Then we have Mamas and the Papas, Simon and Garfunkel, Judy Collins (especially Send in the Clowns, an alternative title for my book), Credence, Lemon Piper’s, Green Tambourine, and even Elvis.
If it was popular in the ’60s and ’70s, then it’s on my soundtrack. To me, that was music at its best. Music that went deep, that left goose bumps, that brought tears. Why, oh, why, don’t they make music like that anymore?
