I had never read a humor book until I began writing humor. My life was already a satire why would I escape to it. I read suspense, mystery, and ghost stories. A good murder always made my day.
But if you want to run in a marathon, why trade tips with the swimmers? So thus began my shift to humor books. Now I wonder where they’ve been all my life. Now even the mystery books I read are laced with humor: e.g. Janet Evanovich’s Stephanie Plum series.
The authors of the books that keep me in stitches these days are,
David Sedaris
Augusten Burroughs
Haven Kimmel
Garrison Keillor
Erma Bombeck
Fannie Flagg
I’m sure I’m missing someone from my laugh library but as a humor reading newbie, I don’t know them all. So if anyone out there has a favorite author of humor, let me know and I’ll check them out.

Dave Barry never fails to keep me in stitches:)
Yes, Dave Barry. I love him. For awhile, my mom was subscribing to the Miami Herald just to get his column. She would make copies and send them to me. I’m sure he’d be flattered to know someone from the opposite end of the coast was subscribing for him alone.
It’s hard to find a book that makes me laugh out loud. Reading the Mr Gum series with my son? Guaranteed guffaws.

Downith~Now you got me to thinking of children’s books. The Olivia series is funny as all get out. And there’s another one, I can’t remember exactly, but I think it’s called Mr. Putter and …. Dang if I can’t remember his cat’s name. He has a cat and a bulldog. But gosh they were so funny.
